東京生まれ。ロンドン在住。
女子美術大学芸術学部芸術学科卒業。東京の「製本工房リーブル」にて製本を始める。
英国サリー州のGuildford
College of Technologyの「美術工芸製本と修復」コースを卒業。
1997年ロンドンに製本のスタジオ 「JADE BOOKBINDING STUDIO」を開設。
主に英国、アメリカのブックコレクター依頼の美術工芸製本の制作とスタジオでの製本指導のかたわら、英国内、ヨーロッパ、アメリカ、日本にて製本のワークショップを行う。
2006年に行われた「イギリスの美しい本」展、2014-15年「見つめて！シェークスピア」展では企画、編集に協力。
2015年 マン・ブッカー賞最終候補者の賞品となるデザイン製本を制作。制作本はAnne Tyler著の“A Spool of Blue Thread”。
デザイナーブックバインダーズ正会員 (Fellow of Designer Bookbinders)。
製本家協会 (The Society
of Bookbinders)会員。 東京製本倶楽部会員。
受賞
1998年、2000〜2003年、大英図書館主催製本コンクールにて各賞受賞。
2002年 イタリアでの「第２回工芸製本国際コンクール」にて「百人の名匠」に入選。
2006年、2013年 英国オックスフォード、ボドリアン図書館での「デザイナーブックバインダーズ国際製本コンペティション」にて巡回展展示作品に入選。
2017年「第３回デザイナーブックバインダーズ国際製本コンペティション」にて秀逸賞を受賞。
2021年 オランダでの「boxyourbook」のコンクールにて３４の展示作品に「仮面舞踏会」の為に制作した箱が入選。
MIDORI KUNIKATA - COCKRAM
Midori Kuikata-Cockram Born in
Tokyo, living in the U K since 1996.
Graduated from the BA(Hons)
Academy of Arts course, Joshibi University of Art and Design, Tokyo. Studied fine
binding at "Bookbinding Studio Livre’", Tokyo. Diploma with
merit in Fine Bookbinding and Conservation, Guildford College of Technology,
Surrey U.K.
Since graduating has given workshops, lectures and exhibitions in the UK,
USA, Europe and Japan. Opened the ‘Jade Bookbinding Studio’ in London
1997, concentrating on private tuition, commissioned and personal work.
Cooperated with Mangosteen Inc. and Designer Bookbinders for the
touring Bookbinding Exhibition “Beautiful British Books” (2006) and touring
exhibition “Looking at Shakespeare”(2014~15) in Japan.
Bound one of the “Man Booker Prize for Fiction”
