I have mentioned about the design binding “La Prose du Transsibérien Re-Creation” (Please see the October 2019 blog in this site). One of my bookbinding friends said that the folding of this text block looks like the Turkish Map fold. I did not know about the Turkish Map Fold, my way of folding for “La Prose” came from a form of Origami Fold. I was interested in the Turkish Map fold and checked up the Turkish fold on the internet.
Although, there are a lot of sites that show how to fold the Turkish Map, I could not find why this method of folding is called Turkish Fold, I will continue to try searching for that when I have more time.
I also could find the variation of map folding which is also interesting to know, such as Hungarian Map Fold.
Perhaps, these folds create very nice bindings or good presentations for the art works.
There are a lot of folding instruction on YouTube and all are easy to understand, so I will not recommend a particular site. I just show a London Tube Map that I made with the Turkish Map Fold and The Metro and suburban railway Map in Budapest by the Hungarian Map Fold. By the way, the Budapest maps were not folded by Hungarian Map Fold when I traveled to Budapest for holiday in 2019.
“La Prose du Transsibérien Re-Creation” のデザイン製本については前にお話ししましたが（このサイトの2019年10月をご覧ください）この本のテキストの折り方はトルコ折りのように見えると製本関係の友人から言われました。私はトルコ折りに関しては知りませんでした。私の”La Prose”の折りは「おりがみ」の折り方からです。
トルコ折りとはどういうものか興味が湧いたのでインターネットで調べてみました。
けれども、トルコ折りの折り方のサイトは沢山あるのですが、なぜこの折り方がトルコ折りと呼ばれるようになったのかを見つけることはできませんでした。もう少し時間に余裕のある時に再び調べてみようかと思っています。そして何種類かの面白い地図の折り方、例えばハンガリー折りなどを見つけることができました。
多分、このような折り方で素敵な本を作ったり、アートワークの提示ができるのではないかと思います。
これらの折り方に関してはどれも簡単でわかり易いYouTubeを沢山ご覧いただくことができますので、私は特定のサイトはご紹介しません。ここではトルコ折りで作ったロンドンの地下鉄地図とハンガリー折りで作ったブタペストの地下鉄、都市近郊電車の地図をご覧いただきます。ちなみに、2019年に旅行でブタペストに行った時、市内地図はハンガリー折りではありませんでした。
