“Hakochitsu”
workshop at “Wurkshop Studio” , November 9th
Designer Bookbinders and The
Society of Bookbinders corporate together and organise a series of joint workshops. Members from both societies are
able to attend with the same costing structure.
On the 9th and 10th
of November, I gave a Japanese Box Case workshop as part of the joint workshop series.
There are some unique points
for the joint workshop. First I could choose the workshop venue, a
place that is convenient in location or a place that I would like to
try to use (e.g. the venue has good facility, the location is nice to visit
etc.) . Second, it is a 2 days workshop with the lecturer/workshop leader and the workshop
participants able
to have a
friendly dinner after the first day of the workshop (participation in the dinner is a personal
choice for everyone except that the lecturer).
The workshop venue I chose
that “The Wurkshop Studio” (yes with a U) in center of Barnes. It is relatively
near my studio with
space for a maximum of 8 people which I think good number. The workshop was full. The 8
participants and one steward (one of the organiser) attended this workshop. More
than half of the participants joined the dinner on the first day night. With very little time for
chatting during the workshop as everybody was concentrating on making the box, the first night dinner was nice in that we could talk with each
other, with the
conversation touching on many aspects of bookbinding and related subjects, personal interests and gossip which courses are nice.
It was very nice class and everybody
made very neat box and I was very happy for the result.

デザイナー・ブックバインダーズと製本協会は共同で一連のジョイント・ワークショップを計画しています。両方の協会の会員は会員料金でこの催しに参加することができることになっています。
11月9日、10日にこのシリーズの一環で「箱帙」のワークショップを行いました。
このジョイント・ワークショップはいくつかの特徴があります。まず、講師が講師にとって便利な場所、もしくは使ってみたい会場（製本用の設備が整っている所や訪ねてみたい場所など）ワークショップを行う会場を選ぶことができます。そして、ワークショップは２日続きで、初日のワークショップの後に講師と参加者との親睦会が設定されます。（この親睦会は講師以外の人は自由参加です）
私はワークショップの会場としてバーンズの中心にある「Wurkshop Studio」（そうです。このスタジオの名はWurkshopで正しいのです）を選びました。ここは私のスタジオから比較的近い所にあり最大８名の参加者を受け入れることができます。丁度良い人数だと私は思います。ワークショップは定員に達し、８名の参加者と一人の世話人（ワークショップ企画者の方）が参加されました。親睦会にはクラスの半数以上の方が参加されました。
ワークショップの最中は皆が制作に収集しておしゃべりをする時間はほとんどなかったので、親睦会では製本に関する様々な事柄、それぞれが興味を持っていること、良いゴシップなどをお互いに話し合うことができた良い機会でした。とても良いクラスで参加者全員がとてもきちんとした本を制作し、とても満足する結果でした。
