Initially built as a cinema in 1906 and known as Byfeld Hall, subsequently converted to recording studios in the 1960's, renamed Olympic Studios was a music recording studio located in Church Road, Barnes. From 1960s to the beginning of 21st century, many well known artists were recorded there including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Queen, etc. However, due to various reasons, the studio was closed in December 2008. After four years closure, Olympic Studios re-opened in October 2013 as a cinema. There are two screens, restaurant and members room. I am not particularly a movie fan, so I do not have chance to visit the Olympic Studios very often. Though, it is nice to have the cinema nearby. I have been in the restaurant a few times and I have once invited the party at the members room for my friend neighbour's 40th birthday. Although, it was a week before the covid lockdown. I was worried about infection and distracted, so I left early and don't remember anything about the room. Recently, one of my friends gave me the information that the Royal Opera House Ballet Company would stage a live screening and my favorite principal would be performing in “Cinderella”. So, I immediately bought a ticket and enjoyed the film. Obviously, the atmosphere is different between the live screening in a cinema and the actual stage. I could not feel the excitement of the actual stage but the screening was well constructed and I had a good time in the very comfortable cinema seat.

（オリンピック・スタジオは）当初、1906年に映画館として建設され、バイフェルドホールとして知られていました。その後1960年代にレコーディング・スタジオとして改装され、オリンピック・スタジオに改名され、それはバーンズのチャーチロードに位置する音楽のレコーティング・スタジオでした。1960年代から21世紀初頭にかけて、ビートルズ、ローリングストーンズ、クイーンなどの多くの有名アーティストがここでレコーディングを行いました。しかし、様々な事情から2008年12月に閉鎖を余儀なくされました。4年間の閉鎖の後、オリンピック・スタジオは映画館として2013年10月に再開されました。２つの上映劇場、レストランと会員専用の部屋（ホール）があります。私は特に映画ファンというわけではないので、オリンピック・スタジオを訪れる機会はあまりありません。とはいうものの、映画館が近くにあるの良いことで、レストランは何度か利用したことがあります。そして、近所の友人の40歳の誕生パーティーで会員専用の部屋に招待されたことが一回あったのですが、それはコロナウィルス感染症のロックダウンの１週間前のことで、私は感染が心配で気もそぞろ、早々に退散したのでその部屋のことは何も憶えていません。最近、友人の一人からロイヤル・オペラ・ハウスのバレエ団が舞台のライブ上演会を開催し、私のお気に入りのプリマが「シンデレラ」に出演するという情報を教えてもらいました。早速チケットを購入して映画を楽しみました。映画館でのライブ上映と実際の舞台とでは、当然のことながら雰囲気が異なります。舞台のような熱気は感じられませんでしたが、よく構成された上映で、とても快適な映画館の座席で良い時間を過ごすことができました。
