PBFA Book Fair

The first page of “Binding Your Own Books”

On the 19th of March, I went to the PBFA (Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association) Book Fair at the Hilton Olympia Hotel in London. The fair had two themes, “Illustrated, Children’s & Modern First Edition” and “Travel & Exploration”.
There used to be a PBFA Book Fair held every months in various London venues, however for the past few years the number of fairs has come down to only two or three times a year.
The biggest PBFA Book Fair is the “London International” in May, it is usually scheduled to coincide with the ABA Book Fair with the dates for this year being the 27th& 28th May 2016.
The books in the PBFA Book Fair could be considered more affordable in price when compared to the ABA Book Fair.
If you would like to know more about PBFA please see the following site.

During my visit to the PBFA fair this year I bought two books. Perhaps the most interesting of my purchases is a copy of the Puffin Picture Books publication of “Binding Your Own Books” by John Woodcock and was issued in 1955. “Puffin Books” is the children’s imprint of Penguin Books and it has a sweet little Puffin logo. It is a simple bookbinding manual with explanatory diagrams. I bought this book just for fun, however it is much better than I first thought and good manual for beginners.
