Curling
The Winter Olympic Games started this month and I am cheering for the Japanese team and Team GB.
My favourite sport/game is figure skating and I am also interested in the jumps and snowboarding etc.
But I have never been interested in Curling until this year. Perhaps, I could not understand the effort of the sweepers. It seems that it is more of a provincial domestic action than a sports !
Although, when I began to watch a competition, I became interested in the various sweeping techniques, judgement of the throwing angel and speed of the stone.
It seems that curling is very popular in UK and recently it is getting popular in Japan. It would appear that the Japanese Women's Team is getting stronger.
I have seen the painting “The Hunters in the Snow” by Pieter Bruegel several times, however, I did not notice until recently that there are people in the distance curling!
冬季オリンピックが今月始まりました。日本と英国の両チームに声援を送っています。
お気に入りの競技はフィギアスケートで、ジャンプやスノーボードなどにも興味を持っていますが、今年になるまでカーリングには一度も興味を持ったことがありませんでした。多分、スウィーピングにかける努力を理解することができなかったからだと思います。それはスポーツというより田舎くさい家事の動作に見えました。とは言うものの競技を見始めたところ、種々のスウィーピング技術や石を投げる角度の判断やスピードなどが面白くなってきました。カーリングは英国ではとても人気のあるようで、最近日本でも人気が出てきたようです。それは日本の女子チームの活躍によるのでしょう。
ピーター・ブリューゲルの「雪中の狩人」の絵は何度も見たことがあるのですが、遠景の人々がカーリングをしている様子が描かれていることには最近まで気がつきませんでした。
