The weather this February has been gloomy and rainy, and I am starting to feel depressed. I decided to display the Hina dolls earlier than usual to cheer up my mood. “Hinamatsuri” (Doll's Festival) is an annual event in Japan that prays for young girls growth and happiness and it occurs on the 3rd of March. The origin of “Hinamatsuri” is an ancient Chinese custom in which the sins and misfortunes were transferred to dolls and washed away by throwing them into a river. When this custom was introduced in Japan, it was associated with girls toy dolls and the practice of “floating” dolls evolved into “decorating” them, the festival become established during the Edo period. Nowadays most Japanese householders （have girls )display Hina dolls in middle of February for girls. I left my Hina dolls in Japan when I moved to UK , however one of my friends gave me some small Hina dolls as a present. Although, I am not young anymore, I still display Hina dolls every year, sometimes with flowers. Last time I went to Japan, I brought back some accessaries from my old Hina doll's set which are two lanterns and two trees (one is a cherry tree and another is a citrus tachibana tree). Those display made me feel a little bit brighter.
この2月は陰気で雨の天気が続いたため、だんだん気分が沈んできました。気分転換をしようといつもより早めに雛人形を飾ることにしました。「雛祭」は女の子の成長と幸せを祈る日本の行事で、毎年3月3日に行われます。「雛祭」の起源は古代中国の風習に遡り、罪や災を人形に移し、それらを川に投げ込み洗い流してしまうというものです。この風習が日本に伝わると、女の子の人形遊びと結びつき、「流す」ことから「飾る」へと変化して、江戸時代に祭りとして定着しました。今では日本のほとんど家庭（女の子のいる家庭）では女の子の為に2月中旬に雛人形を飾ります。私はイギリスに引っ越したときに自分の雛人形を日本に置いてきてしまったのですが、友人の一人が小さな雛人形をプレセントしてくれました。私はもう若くはありませんが、今でも毎年雛人形を飾り、時には花も一緒に飾ります。前回日本に行ったとき、昔使っていたひな人形の飾りから提灯2つ、木2本（1本は桜、もう1本は橘）を持ち帰りました。これらの飾りのおかげで、少しだけ気持ちが明るくなりました。
