On the 11th of December I joined an online workshop “Draw the mistletoe for a Christmas Card”.
The tutor, Ms. Mayumi Hashi, is a botanical artist and she organised the online workshop.
It was 2hours session using Google meet. All the participants received some photographs of mistletoe in advance. Ms. Mayumi Hashi suggested that we were to make draft drawings up to the workshop day.
At the beginning of the workshop the tutor gave us some information about the mistletoe plant. It is quite a unique plant and I personally like the shape and colour. Then the tutor showed us some drawing samples and the participants started working at their own pace. The workshop was well organised and I really enjoyed it.
It is difficult to explain what I feel about online lessons and workshops. Perhaps, it is similar to music. At home, I am comfortable and can relax when listening to music on the radio or CD. However, it does not have the atmosphere that live music has. In the concert hall I can "feel" the music, the vibrations through my seat or the floor. In addition I enjoy seeing the musicians, conductor, singers and dancers all working together. Both ways of enjoying music are good but it is impossible to replicate live music in any way other than being there. If I have the choice, being there is my favourite.

１２月１１日に「ヤドリギを描く — クリスマスカード」のオンライン・ワークショップに参加しました。
講師は植物画家の端眞由美先生で、グーグル・ミートを使っての２時間のセッションでした。参加者全員が事前にヤドリギの写真を受け取り、先生から当日までに下絵を描いておくようにとの指示を受けました。ワークショップでは、始めに先生から植物としてのヤドリギについての説明がありました。ヤドリギはなかなかユニークな植物で、私はその外見も色も好きです。そして、先生から幾つかの描画の見本を見せていただいた後、各自それぞれのペースで作業を始めました。ワークショップはよく計画されており、とても楽しく制作することができました。
オンラインでの授業やワークショップをどう感じるかを説明するのは難しいです。多分、音楽と同じような感じかと思います。家では心地よくリラックスしてラジオやCDを聞くことができます。けれども、それには生の音楽を聞く雰囲気はありません。コンサートホールでは席や床を通しての響き、音楽を感じることができます。加えて申し上げれば、演奏家、指揮者、歌手そしてダンサー全てが共に機能するのを見るのも楽しいです。
両方とも音楽を楽しむのには良いのですが、生演奏はその場に居る時だけで再生は不可能です。でも、もし選択肢があるのならば、その場に居る方が私のお気に入りです。
