In March I became a member of the
Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (Kew Gardens). As a member, I will be able to go to Kew gardens much more easier than before. Though I had been there few times
before I became a
member, somehow
I always visited in Mach. The weather still chilly from the winter and the gardens were
relatively quiet. Naturally enough, Kew
Gardens in summer is much more colourful and alive.
This time, friends invited me
to go to a demonstration of Christabel
King who is the Botanical Artist at Kew Gardens. We were all very much impressed with her skilful, very delicate and beautiful
work.
Also Dale Chihuly’s Glass
artworks were exhibited in various places in the gardens, the greenhouses
and the gallery. I think that Chihuly’s Glass works and the Kew Gardens
collaboration worked very well.
We also walked around the gardens to see
the some heritage trees that the Japanese Kew artist, Masumi Yamanaka had
painted. It was beautiful Sunday afternoon and I walked a lot that day.

３月にキュー王立植物園(キュー・ガーデンズ)の会員になりました。会員になってからは以前よりずっと気軽にキュー・ガーデンに行けるようになりました。とはいうものの、会員になる前にも何度か行ったことはあるのですが、なぜか行くのはいつも３月で、気候は冬からの寒さが続いており庭園は比較的ひっそりしたものでした。当然のことながらキュー・ガーデンズの夏はもっとカラフルで活気に満ちています。
今回は、友人に誘われてキュー・ガーデンズの植物画作家のクリスタベル・キングさんのデモンストレーションを見てきました。我々は皆、彼女の熟練し、繊細で美しい制作に大いに感服いたしました。
それと、ガラス作家デイル・チフリーの作品が庭園と温室とギャラリーで展示されていました。チフリーのガラス作品とキュー・ガーデンズのコラボレーションはとても良く合っていると思います。
日本人のキュー植物園の公式作家、山中麻須美さんが描かれた文化遺産の木もいくつか見てきました。
とても気持ちの良い日曜日の午後で、その日は本当によく歩きました。
