It is now March and I am finally starting to feel the signs of spring. The daffodils and magnolias are in full bloom, and the wind blowing across my face feels warm. On a gorgeous spring day I went to the Dulwich Picture Gallery, which I found out about this gallery via the National Art Pass information book (please see my post for January 2026). Dulwich Picture Gallery is the world's first purpose-built art gallery and has been open to the public since 1817. The building was designed by the architect Sir John Soane (please see my post for April 2018) who created rooms flooded with natural light. This was my first time going to Dulwich. The area around North Dulwich Station had a very tranquil environment on the day I visited and made me feel relaxed. This feeling was continued when I went to the Picture Gallery. There were many visitors despite being a relatively local museum on a weekday. The gallery was manageable size to look around. The gallery has several European master artists works such as Rembrandt, Canaletto, Poussin and Gainsborough along with some contemporary artworks in the garden. While I was in the garden I casually looked up at a pine tree and noticed some dried big pine cones still attached to it, which looked like a one of the artwork.

3月に入り、漸く春が感じられるようになりました。水仙と木蓮が満開で、顔に当たる風にも暖かさを感じます。素晴らしい春の日に、ナショナル・アート・パス（このサイトの2026年1月のブログをご参照ください）から送られてきた情報小冊子に掲載されていた、ダリッジ・ピクチャー・ギャラリーへ行ってきました。ダリッジ・ピクチャー・ギャラリーは世界で初めて美術館専用として建てられ、1817年から公開されています。建物はサー・ジョン・ソーン（このサイトの2018年4月のブログをご参照ください）によるデザインで、部屋に自然光が十分に入るように作られています。ダリッジを訪れたのは初めてです。その日のノース・ダリッジ駅周辺はとてものんびりとした雰囲気でくつろいだ気分になりました。この気分はギャラリーへいっても続きました。平日の比較的ローカルな美術館にも関わらず、多くの人々が訪れていました。ギャラリーは見て回るのにちょうど良い大きさでした。ギャラリーはレンブラント、カナレット、プッサンそしてゲイズバラなど、多くのヨーロッパの巨匠の作品が展示されており、庭には現代アートの作品もありました。私が庭にいた時に何気なく松の木を見上げたところ、乾燥した大きな松ぼっくりがまだ木についているのに気がつきました。まるでアート作品の１つのようでした。
