About one year ago, I joined one of the workshops at Flatford Mill in Suffolk (please see July 2024 post in this site). One of the classmates who attended this workshop mentioned about the short course at West Dean College. The tutor is Ms. Ann Swan, well known botanical artist using with pencils and colured pencils. After taking the workshop at Flatford Mill, I became interested in drawing botanical subjects with coloured pencils. So, I attended two and half days “Botanical drawing with coloured pencils” for beginners at West Dean College this month. I have been to West Dean College a couple of times before but that was long time ago. Although, there are some things that have not changed much. Ann's lesson was carefully prepared and very well organised. She is certainly a top class tutor. After the lunch break at the garden restaurant in West Dean, I quick visit the cutting garden and the kitchen garden. Many dahlias were blooming beautifully. One of the gardens staff kindly gave me a cut dahlia, it brightened up my bleak room in college. Additional information, West Dean College has full time course of bookbinding and also has full time book conservation course.

１年ほど前に、サフォーク州にあるフラットフォード・ミルのワークショップに参加しました 。（このブログの２０２４年７月の投稿をご覧ください） このワークショップに参加していたクラスメートがウェスト・ディーン・カレッジのショート・コースの話をされていました。アン・スワン先生は、鉛筆と色鉛筆を使って植物画を描かれる有名な植物画の作家です。フラットフォード・ミルのワークショップに参加してから、私は色鉛筆で植物の素材を描くことに興味をもち始めました。ということで、今月ウェスト・ディーン・カレッジの初心者の為の「色鉛筆で描く植物画」の２日半のコースに参加してきました。ウェスト・ディーン・カレッジには以前何回か行ったことがありますが、もうかなり前のことです。とはいえ、あまり変わっていない所もありました。アンの授業は、実によく準備され、上手に構成されていて、間違いなくトップクラスの先生でした。ウェスト・ディーンのガーデン・レストランでのお昼休みの後にちょっとカッティング・ガーデンとキッチン・ガーデンに行ってきました。たくさんのダリアが満開でとても綺麗でした。庭で仕事をしていた職員の方が親切に、切ったダリアの花をわけてくださいました。それは殺風景なカレッジの部屋を明るくしてくれました。追加情報として、ウェスト・ディーン・カレッジにはフルタイムの製本コースフルタイムの書籍修復のコースがあります。ウェスト・ディーン・カレッジの詳細は上記のサイトをご覧ください。
