London Craft Week 2022 has held on the 9th to 15th of May.
As I mentioned before Designer Bookbinders has joined this event for several years. For the first couple of years DB held a number of bookbinding demonstrations, since 2019 DB have organised bookbinding workshops by DB Fellows.
There were four workshops on the Saturday this year and they were held at the Cockpit Studios near Holborn.
I gave “Two Concertina Binding” workshop in the morning session.
One is a non-adhesive binding that was introduced in ‘Paper Pleasures’ by Faith Shannon who was a Fellow of DB (Faith passed away a couple of years ago). It is a hard cover book and with no adhesives used it is simple to make.
The 2nd book was a “Double Concertina Binding” designed by Sue Doggett who is a Fellow of DB.
This method has introduced in ‘The Handmade Book’ edited by Angela James who is also a Fellow of DB.
It was a bit of a tight schedule to make two books in 2 and half hours, but it seems everybody enjoyed it.
2022年のロンドン・クラフト・クラフトウィークは５月９日から１５日まで開催されました。
以前にもふれましたがデザイナー・ブックバインダーズは何年かこの催しに参加しています。
当初は幾つかの製本のデモンストレーションをしていましたが、2019年からはDBのフェローによるワークショップを行っています。今年は４つのワークショップがホルバンの近くにあるコックピット・スタジオで行われました。
私は午前中に「２つのコンセルティーナ・バインディング」のワークショプを行いました。
一つは接着剤を使用せずに作る本で、DBのフェローであったフェイス・シャノン（フェイスは数年前に他界されました）による「ペーパー・プレジャー」の本に紹介されているものです。ハードカバーの本ではあるものの接着剤を全く使わず簡単に作れます。２つ目の本は「ダブル・コンセルティーナ・バインディング」というDBフェローのスー・ドガットによってデザインされたものです。この方法は同じくDBフェローのアンジェラ・ジェームスによって編集された「ハンドメイド・ブック」で紹介されています。
２時間半で２冊の本を作るのはちょっと厳しい計画でしたが、参加者の方々には楽しんでいただけたようです。
