During the lock down, I assume that a lot of people have spent time for tidying or changing the interior design of their home.
I also changed some prints at home. I like the illustration prints from the old books. Fortunately, one of my near relatives gave me some old botanical prints as Christmas presents over the years. Also I sometimes buy the old prints when I travel and visit antiquarian bookshops. The following photographs are some of the prints from my small collection.
Until the colour printing technique progress, a lot of book illustrations were hand coloured. Hence the pigments used to create the colours came out very well when compared to printing ink.
These illustrations were in a closed book so the prints were not exposed to the open air which has meant that the colours and prints are in very good condition. It is a shame that the books were 'broken' and taken to pieces, however I could enjoy the beautiful prints on the wall at all time.
ロックダウンの最中は、多くの方が家の片付けやインテリア・デザインを変えるのに時間を費やされたのではないかと察します。私も家の幾つかのプリントを変えました。私は古い本からの挿絵のプリントが好きです。幸い親戚の一人が植物画のプリントを長年にわたってクリスマスにプレゼントしてくれました。そして私も旅行に行ったり古書店を訪ねた折に古いプリントを買ったりしていました。下の写真は私のささやかなコレクションの中の幾つかです。
カラー印刷が進歩するまで、多くの挿絵は手書きで彩色されていました。したがって顔料で彩色されたものの発色は印刷インキよりはるかによいです。これらの挿絵は閉じられた本にあったので、外気にさらされることがなかったために彩色と印刷はとてもよい状況です。本が解体されてばらばらになるのは残念ですが、そのおかげで壁に掛けられた美しいプリントをいつでも眺めることができます。
